Infant Massage

Infant massage is an ancient tradition in many cultures which has been rediscovered and adapted to the western world. Clinical evidence shows that loving, nurturing touch between a caregiver and an infant can have a positive impact on the subsequent development of the infant. Infant massage is one of the most natural and pleasant ways of providing this positive contact.

The Importance of Bonding:

Research findings abound showing that the unfolding of human potential depends on a nurturing climate during childhood. The affectionate and tactile bonds between caregiver and infant ensure healthy interaction and development for time to come.

A number of important elements help form the bond between parent and infant. These include eye-to-eye contact, skin-to-skin contact, facial expressions, soothing sounds, cuddling and smell. Infant massage includes these critical elements of bonding.

Benefits of Infant Massage:

Enhances loving communication by providing both mothers and fathers avenues to experience quality time with their newborn baby.

Relieves symptoms of gas and colic.

Helps baby sleep better by releasing the baby?s stress and teaching them to relax.

Contributes to healthy development by strengthening and regulating the digestive, respiratory and circulatory systems.

About the Infant Massage Classes

Infant massage classes are taught in a series of four to five sessions. While the course can be taught in 4 sessions, given that we are massaging infants, sometimes an extra session is needed to complete the entire course. Private instruction is also available. Classes are designed for you with your baby, from birth to pre-crawling. Infant massage can be learned by anyone interested in having a loving relationship with their baby.
